The Detroit Public Safety Foundation (DPSF) is proud to announce the opening of nominations for the 2nd Annual Public Safety Distinguished Service Award, which will be presented at the Above & Beyond Awards Ceremony on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Ford Field. This award provides the community with the opportunity to recognize members of the Detroit Police Department (DPD) and the Detroit Fire Department (DFD) who have gone above and beyond in service to the community over the past year.

“For more than a decade, we have celebrated the courage and sacrifice of Detroit’s first responders through the Above & Beyond Awards Ceremony,” said Patti Kukula, Executive Director of DPSF. “The Distinguished Service Award allows us to broaden that recognition by honoring individuals—sworn and civilian alike—who demonstrate exceptional dedication and have made a lasting impact on our city.”

Nominations will be accepted from Wednesday, September 17, 2025, through Wednesday, October 15, 2025. Any current DPD or DFD employee, sworn or civilian, is eligible for consideration. One winner will be selected from each department, based on the strength of the written nomination. Winners will be announced on Monday, October 27, 2025, and will be recognized during the Above & Beyond Awards Ceremony.

Award recipients will each receive two complimentary tickets to attend the ceremony, one for themselves and one for a guest. The individual who submits the winning nomination will also be invited to attend with a guest.
