Above & Beyond Awards Ceremony
November 13, 2024
Ford Field
The 12th Annual Above & Beyond Awards Ceremony, hosted by the Detroit Public Safety Foundation, will take place on November 13, 2024 at Ford Field. This annual event is an opportunity to honor members from the Detroit Police Department and Detroit Fire Department.
During the signature event, Detroit Police Officers, Firefighters and EMS personnel are recognized for going "Above & Beyond" the call of duty. Recipients receive the Medal of Valor, Purple Heart Award and the Emergency Medical Merit Award. Each recipient is recognized on stage, receiving their medals by department leadership and in front of family, friends and community supporters. The award recipients are selected by department leadership for their heroic actions throughout the year.
In addition to recognizing Detroit's first responders, the Detroit Public Safety Foundation presents two awards to outstanding community partners. The City Change Maker Award is for an individual or organization which has made a significant contribution to the City of Detroit. The Penske Corporation, represented by Bud Denker, received the 2023 City Change Maker Award from Mayor Mike Duggan. The second award is the Public Safety Partner Award, for an organization dedicated to supporting public safety. Marathon Petroleum, represented by John Stefko, received the 2023 Public Safety Partner award from Chief James E. White. Marathon has been a long time supporter of Detroit's first responders and in 2023 provided a grant to fully fund the Detroit Police Department's Explorers Program.
