Above & Beyond
November 1, 2023
Detroit Marriott Renaissance Center

5:30 pm - 8:30 pm

The 11th Annual Above & Beyond Awards Ceremony, honoring Detroit Police, Fire and EMS, will take place on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at the beautiful Detroit Marriott Renaissance Center. The signature event hosted by the Detroit Public Safety Foundation recognizes Detroit Police Officers, Firefighters and EMS personnel for going "Above & Beyond" the call of duty. Recipients receive the Medal of Valor for their bravery and service in the face of great danger. The Purple Heart Award is given to those who were injured or killed in the line of duty, making at times the greatest sacrifice in service for others. The Emergency Medical Merit Award is for the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) division to honor members for exceptional service.

In 2022, a total of 37 first responders were recognized for their distinguished service. A posthumous Purple Heart award was presented to the family of Police Officer Loren Courts who was killed in the line of duty in 2022.

“We are grateful Above & Beyond gives us the chance to recognize our officers for their bravery and give them the commendation they deserve,” said Chief James E. White. “We will never forget the heroism that our officers show every day, especially Officer Loren Courts, who made the ultimate sacrifice protecting the city of Detroit.”

As we prepare for the 2023 event, we ask you to consider supporting the event with a sponsorship. Please see the sponsorship packet below. This event will inspire you and the support from the community is so important for the morale and success of our public safety servants.
